January Week 1 “New Mercies for a New Year" |
Welcome to January, and to the very first week of our brand-new Bible Study series for the New Year!
My name is Tony Jackson and I am the founder and CEO of TRUST THE KING. Thank you for starting this year’s biblical and inspirational journey with us.
We are kicking off January with a series focused on “Fresh Starts”. As we step into a new year, we’re not carrying last year’s regrets, problems, or disappointments into this new season. We’re also not looking back, unless we’re thanking God for where he has brought us from. What’s behind us no longer defines us, weighs us down, or has authority over our future. We step into this new year trusting God even more; confident that His mercy is brand new every morning and His faithfulness never fails. This is a fresh start—not because everything will be perfect, but because God will be present. So we move forward with hope, gratitude, and expectation, believing that what God has ahead of us is greater than what we left behind. God’s word promises us that His grace gives us a fresh opportunity. Yesterday does not get the final word. And please know that God doesn’t recycle mercy- He renews it!
Let’s look at the word. This week, we are anchoring our hearts in the beautiful promise found in Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV) “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” |
Breaking Down the Verses:
1. "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed": When the verse says we are “not consumed,” it is saying that we are not destroyed, defeated, or overwhelmed by the struggles, hardships, or failures we may face. Life may try to wear you down through heartbreak, or setbacks. But God’s love protects and preserves us. This is a perfect reminder of God's grace. God will always love you in spite of your mistakes. You may feel like you don’t deserve it, but that is what makes God so great. He loves us anyway.
2. When it says “His compassion never fails,” it means that God’s love, mercy, and kindness toward us are constant and unfailing. No matter what we’ve done, what we’re going through, or how we feel, God’s heart for us does not run out, weaken, or disappear. People may disappoint us, circumstances may change, or we may even fail ourselves—but God’s compassion remains steady. He is always ready to forgive, heal, guide, and restore. It’s a promise; and we can rely on His goodness every single day. God’s care is bigger than any obstacle we may face. This is why we can step into a new year with confidence—because with God, we are never alone. Even if you’ve fallen away from God, pick yourself up, put a smile on your face and run to Him, because He is waiting for you with open arms. (Jeremiah 31:3)
3. "They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.": This simply means God doesn't give us "leftover grace”. Every day is a clean slate. Hallelujah! This is the ultimate foundation for trusting Him: knowing that no matter what happened yesterday, God is still100% faithful to you today. It is celebrating the fact that God is completely constant, reliable, and true to His promises. His faithfulness is not like ours; it doesn’t falter, fail, or get tired. Whatever He says, He will do. And whatever He promises, He will come through. (Numbers 23:19)
BE ENCOURAGED! You may be leaving one job to start another one. You may be leaving one state to move to another. Things may just be changing from what was familiar. These are times when things can feel uncertain. Opportunities can feel unclear, and you may be questioning whether your decisions are the right ones. Through it all, remember that God’s timing and plans are perfect, even when it doesn’t match our own. Each day, remind yourself to be grateful for the fresh start, for the new plan, and for another chance to trust Him fully. Allow the word of God to meet you in the uncertain times. His grace and mercy reminds us that we are not defined by our past, but His faithfulness assures us that every step we take, He is leading and guiding us. You may not be able to see the full picture clearly yet, but you can rest in the truth that God is working all things out together for your good. (Romans 8:28) Your new beginning isn’t just a realignment, a relocation, or redirection; it’s a spiritual renewal, a chance to embrace His plan, walk in gratitude, and trust that the best is yet to come! (Jeremiah 29:11)

Trust Challenge of the Week This week we are practicing the art of the "Clean Slate" - to align our hearts with God's new mercies. Every morning until next weeks bible study before you get out of bed, if you can, read this out loud: "Lord, thank You that Your mercies are new for me today. I trust Your faithfulness over everything." Allow this simple declaration to shift your perspective for your day.
SHARE BIBLE STUDY - We pray that bible study is encouraging you. Please share it with your friends and family by simply entering their email on our homepage.
What's Next? Next week, we’ll share what it looks like to be truly vulnerable with God as we explore the power of "pouring our hearts out to Him, even while everything is going good." Until then, may you walk in new mercies with a clean slate, as you TRUST THE KING, no matter what. We are praying for You! |
