January Week 3 “The Power of Perpetual Gratitude" |
The Power of Perpetual Gratitude
Hello and Welcome back to Week 3 of our January series!
We are three weeks into the New Year, and this is often when the "newness" begins to wear off and daily life gets busy. That’s why this week’s focus is so critical. Gratitude isn't just for Thanksgiving; it is a spiritual discipline that keeps our hearts aligned with God's will all year long. This week, we revisit the powerful command found in 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Let’s dive in.
Bible Study: Week 3 "The Power of Perpetual Gratitude"
Scripture Focus: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) - "give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
Introduction (Trust Note): Sometimes we wait for a "blessing" before we offer "thanks." But this verse challenges us to give thanks in the middle of whatever we are facing. Gratitude is a sign of deep trust because it says, "God, I don't like this situation, but I thank You that You are still in control and You are still good." This posture changes our internal atmosphere from one of complaint to one of power. |
Breaking Down the Verse :
• We often ask, "What is God's will for my life?" Here is a clear answer: Gratitude. When we live with a thankful heart, we are walking directly in the center of His will.
In all, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us that gratitude is not just a quick reaction—it is a way of living. It invites us to see every moment as an opportunity to recognize God’s goodness. Gratitude shifts our focus from what we have accomplished to who has sustained us. It helps us acknowledge that every blessing, open door, and moment of joy is a gift from God’s faithful hand. Living with thankfulness keeps our hearts humble and our spirits aligned with God’s purpose.
This scripture also encourages believers to understand that gratitude is God’s will for our lives in Christ Jesus. When we choose to give thanks, we are actively agreeing with God’s plan and trusting His presence in our daily walk. Gratitude strengthens our faith, deepens our joy, and reminds us that God is always at work for our good. A thankful heart doesn’t overlook blessings—it magnifies them. As we live out this verse, we inspire others, draw closer to God, and experience a life marked by peace, joy, and confident trust in Him.
Reflection Question: What is the "circumstance" in your life right now where it feels hardest to give thanks? What is one small thing you can thank God for in the midst of it?
Trust Challenge of the Week This week, we are challenging ourselves to interrupt negativity with a "Gratitude Pivot."
Your Challenge: The "Gratitude Pivot." This week, every time you catch yourself complaining (about traffic, the weather, a coworker, or a chore), immediately stop and "pivot." Name one thing you are grateful for in that exact moment. For example: "I'm frustrated with this traffic, but I'm grateful I have a car to drive." This simple act retrains your brain to see God's goodness in everything. Tag us or reply and tell us how your Trust Challenge went — because we believe every act of faith grows the Kingdom. |
What's Next? We close out January next week by looking at how to maintain "unswerving hope" for the rest of the year. Until then, may you find joy in the "pivot" as you Just Trust God.
