January Week 4

“Unswerving Hope: Holding Fast to the Promise"

Hello and Welcome to the final week of our January series!

Bible Study: Week 4 "Unswerving Hope: Holding Fast to the Promise"

We’ve spent this month laying a foundation of trust for the year ahead, and I am so proud of the steps of faith we’ve taken.

As we wrap up the first month of the year, we want to make sure the "fire" of the new year doesn't fade. Life will try to push us off course, but we serve a God who is unwavering. Our final focus for January is about holding on tight to the hope we have in Jesus.

This week, we are anchoring our souls in Hebrews 10:23.

Let’s look at this scripture.

Scripture Focus: Hebrews 10:23 (NIV) - "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful”.

Introduction (Trust Note):

To "swerve" means to suddenly change direction or lose control. Imagine driving behind someone on the highway who is swerving from lane to lane. It would instantly cause you to grab your steering wheel even tighter and back away from that vehicle, so that you didn’t have to swerve. The first opportunity you had, you may also attempt to pass them. You would quickly realize, this is not a vehicle you want to be near. Likewise in life, different circumstances often try to make us swerve into doubt or fear. But the writer of Hebrews encourages us to hold on "unswervingly." Why? Not because we are so strong, but because the One who made the promise is faithful. Our hope isn't based on our ability to hold on to God; it's based on His ability to hold on to us.

Breaking Down the Verse:

  1. "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess": • This is an active, muscular type of faith. It’s like a mountain climber gripping a rope. We have to intentionally choose to keep our hope in God, especially when life tries to pull us in a different direction.

  2. "for He who promised is faithful.": • This is the "why" behind our hope and trust. We can be bold and unswerving because God has a 100% track record of keeping His word. If He said it, He will do it. He is the ultimate anchor that does not move.

In all, our hope isn’t rooted in circumstances, emotions, or outcomes; it’s rooted in the promises of God. When things around us feel uncertain, this verse gently reminds us that what God has spoken over our lives remains steady and true.

Keeping hope is an intentional act. It means choosing trust over doubt, consistency over convenience, and faith over feelings. Hope is not based on how things look in the moment, but on the unchanging faithfulness of God.

When we make the choice to keep hope, we are declaring that God’s word carries more weight than our worries. We hold on—not because we are strong, but because He who promised is faithful. Thank you Jesus!

What makes this hope so powerful is the reason behind it: God is faithful. Period! Even when we feel weak, distracted, or unsure, His faithfulness never wavers. The fact that we hold fast doesn’t mean we won’t ever struggle—it simply means we choose not to let go of our faith. Day by day, we keep trusting, keep believing, and keep standing on His word, knowing that the One who promised will always come through. We TRUST THE KING, no matter what.

PERSONAL TESTIMONY:

“Keep Holding Hope Until the Keys Are in Your Hand”

For several years, Marshall and his wife had been dreaming about owning their dream home. They talked about it often—what the kitchen would look like, their bedrooms, the entertainment space, the work area, where the kids would play, and how the house would become a place of peace and gratitude. They planned carefully, saved consistently, and prayed faithfully, believing that God had placed this dream in their hearts for a reason.

There were moments though when the process felt slow. Listings fell through, prices continuously changed, and timelines seemed so far in the distance. Still, Marshall held tightly to hope. He kept reminding himself of Hebrews 10:23: “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” Instead of letting doubt, delays and time shake his confidence, he chose to trust that God was already working behind the scenes on his behalf.

There are times when you’re going to have to praise God in advance for your own expectation. It has to be a praise like it’s already done! The dream you have for your life has to be so real that it causes a fire SHUT UP in your bones. Believe it! Speak it!  WORK YOUR FAITH! And trust that God is with you and faithful to His word!

The more Marshall praised God and spoke the words of hope and trust, he realized that the waiting period was strengthening his faith more than anything else. He learned quickly that “holding the keys in his hand”, is not the real victory—and neither is his dream home, but it’s learning to trust God’s faithfulness in every situation. But can I get a witness that GOD IS ABLE! Hallelujah!

The Lesson: Hope is not proven by how quickly our dreams happen, but by how firmly we hold on while we wait.

Reflection Question: What is one dream you have or a promise from God that you are choosing to "hold unswervingly" to as you head into the rest of this year?

This week, create a permanent reminder of God's faithfulness to carry you through the months ahead.

Next month, we’ll begin a brand new series in February exploring what it means to “LOVE THEM ANYWAY”. Luke 6:27-28.
